If you happen to catch kids waving signs with their parents in tow around town, they are trying to get word out that too much money, in their view, is going away from public schools into charter schools.

A larger group protested on Wadsworth down the hill yesterday. We'll keep you posted.

I'm not sure how that was relayed as the message of Boots on the Boulevard. I stood at an intersection on Wadsworth in Lakewood; our signs reinforced that we were out there because we want transparency, accountability and respect from the school board majority.

Only in part; while the respect piece can be interpreted to include the events surrounding Dr. Stevenson's departure earlier than expected, the intention of respect as an expectation is to respect the community's priorities expressed in a recent survey.

As for your other response of "Do you think it is working?", Boots on the Boulevard was a step in bringing attention to issues. The process of identifying issues, having them addressed, and taking appropriate action to resolve them to everyone's satisfaction is not - and should not - be perfunctory.

I agree with the decision to put the money into charter schools instead of free full day kindergarten.

The attorney needed to be hired to replace the one that quit shortly before the previous superintendent left.

Raises for all teachers that meet an acceptable level on their last review.

Sounds like things are going swimmingly. I don't understand the protests.
