Protesters in Evergreen

Post by EG Bound Road Crew »

If you happen to catch kids waving signs with their parents in tow around town, they are trying to get word
out that too much money, in their view, is going away from public schools into charter schools.

A larger group protested on Wadsworth down the hill yesterday. We'll keep you posted.

I'm not sure how that was relayed as the message of Boots on the Boulevard. I stood at an intersection on Wadsworth in Lakewood; our signs reinforced that we were out there because we want transparency, accountability and respect from the school board majority.

Please consider reading about what the #StandUp4Kids hashtag and related actions are about at http://standupforallstudents.org/.

Thank you oddharmonic for giving us a source of information. We will post this #StandUp4Kids on our
Facebook page also and try to elaborate here as well.

One family was putting their signs away and gave us a brief explanation of concerns about funds going
towards charter schools, but we weren't clear about the other issues of concern.

Thanks again for posting, and feel free to clarify the message you want to convey.

WHEAT RIDGE — Jefferson County Schools superintendent finalist Dan McMinimee faced a decidedly tough crowd Thursday, as dozens of people came to an open house at Wheat Ridge High School to set eyes for the first time on the man who more than likely will take the reins of the state's second-largest school district.

Parents and teachers in this deeply divided district challenged McMinimee, who on Saturday was named by the board as the sole contender for the superintendent post, on a number of topics ranging from charter schools to teacher pay to community unity.

The Denver Post
Guest commentary
By Sydney Ayers and Lisa Cutter

Excerpt -
". . . Acting in direct conflict with district policy, the new board majority hired an attorney with no clear scope of work and a contract of up to $90,000 a year to be paid for with tax dollars. The new majority also recently loaned money to a financially failing charter school even though the school has not repaid its initial debt to the district. More stunningly, this new majority halted a $5 million grant focused on kindergarten assessment despite the fact this assessment will be mandated by the state beginning next school year. In a time when school districts have experienced shrinking budgets and faced tough choices, this seems capricious and not in the best interest of our children."

we need charter schools to offset the left wing propaganda that the JCEA is promoting and infecting our children with..

I challenge anyone to tell me why any teacher needs to be paid more than 10 an hour...

Boots on the Boulevard

JEFFERSON COUNTY – Sarah Jenkins is just one of many standing along Wadsworth Boulevard to make a point.

"It's really about standing up for what is right for educators, for teachers, and trying to the word out that hopefully have a little bit more transparency for our Jeffco Board," Jenkins said.

. They are upset with recently elected board members Ken Witt, John Newkirk, and Julie Williams who make up the majority.

Protesters have also have concerns that Witt, Newkirk, and Williams have made cuts to full day kindergarten while adding funds to charter schools
