E. coli levels high at 108-acre Elk Meadows Offleash Dog Park in Evergreen

The stream cascades into Bear Creek and down into Evergreen Lake, which is then treated and used for drinking water.
However, humans can pick up E. coli from letting their pets play around in the dirty water.
“And then you’re not only bringing that up to your vehicle, but then you’re introducing it to your car and then back into your own home,” he said.

Jeffco Open Space this week will host the second in a series of community meetings to address public safety and environmental issues plaguing the Elk Meadow off-leash area in Evergreen.
The meeting takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Buchanan Rec Center in Evergreen, and Jeffco Open Space officials are hopeful the gathering will attract the same type of crowd that attended the first meeting. Last month, 187 Elk Meadow dog park users attended the first meeting and provided more than 180 potential solutions for improving public safety on Stagecoach Boulevard, as well as for addressing severe vegetation loss and extreme levels of E. coli detected in the stream that flows through the park, said Matt Robbins, Jeffco Open Space’s community connections manager. Open Space staffers have since broken down those possible solutions into 50 distinct proposals.
The agenda for Thursday’s meeting will include a review of the major issues facing the dog park and a presentation of some new information Open Space employees have collected since the first meeting in January.

Of course the most careless people won't show at the meeting to get the point!
I know people who adore this park, and their dogs are over the moon about it.
It would be a shame to lose use of it for periods of time.
Like resting pastures, maybe certain areas could be off limits occasionally or
even permanently such as anywhere near the stream.
