Now, Oregon joins Alaska as American states with a sincere chance to become the third (and fourth!) legal marijuana states in the country. If voters approve Oregon’s initiative this election, possession of up to eight ounces becomes legal, anyone will be able to grow four plants, and cannabis would be taxed at $35 an ounce and $5 a plant.
The state would then have until January 1, 2016 to implement regulations for businesses to produce and distribute cannabis to consumers.
Buoyed by a strong, creative campaign, Oregon has set a flawless blueprint for other states to follow. Now, we’ll wait and see if this results in voter turnout and legal weed come November.
