It is kidnapping if you take the child illegally. I guess this is saying the same thing in different ways.

Its still not the same as a stranger abduction and they've deluted the effect of the Amber Alert by issueing this one. Its the first one I ever got on my smart phone and I thought a Tornado was about to descend on me or something, it really got my attention.

What this guy doesn't know was that kids grow up fast, the boy was gonna be a teeanger real soon and could choose whomever he wants to live with...And of course a son is gonna want to go live with his father. He should have let the mom do all the dirty work now, then get the kid when he's old enough to be fun- old enough to fish and hunt with, and go to ballgames with...He really screwed up.

I have to agree with The Mirror There are parental abductions where the kids are hurt so the Amber alert was appropriate.

One aspect I really don't like about children taken by family members, not returned by dad on
time from visitation, etc. being called an abduction is the effect on the child .

In this case yes, the guy was obsessed, stun gun oday, real gun tomorrow - these people
escalate their behavior when they are stalking, rage-aholics, thinking only of themselves.

Now the kid grows up forever knowing his daddy was so bad the cops had a big man hunt
for him. Throws a shadow on the "be all you can be" mindset you'd rather he grow up with.

Well...There are a lot of fathers that dissapear completely, so I don't know whats worse for the boy- I think the absentee father hurts a lot more than the "I tried everything to be with you son" scenario

- We just can't act like it's the same thing. In a stranger abduction you get a scene out of a Hannibal Lecter movie, and in a parent "abduction" you get a trip to Chuck E Cheese and a stop at the DQ for soft serve. It shouldnt be an Amber Alert, and I don't think the guy should do jail time...One more chance

And BTW I'd be saying the same thing if it was a mom that took her kid.

Maybe they need another name. Amber Alert for stranger abduction, Andy Alert for parental custody battle.
Trouble is, whole families do end up in murder suicides.
